Anxious Congregation

Grenwich Community Church is a typical anxious local church.  But there’s one small problem.  They wouldn’t use the word “anxious” to describe themselves as a church.  In fact, quite the opposite.  They’d be offended if you suggested they were “anxious”.  Barry Moffat, a dynamic visionary leader has just arrived on the scene as their new Lead Pastor.  There are signs of life, growth, and momentum.  But anxiety and fear lurk beneath the surface, threatening to disrupt the sense of excitement, optimism and hope which has inspired them on their journey.

Whether you realize it or not, Grenwich Community Church’s story is your church’s story.  Weaving organizational systems principles and theological reflection into Grenwich’s story, Ken Thiessen illustrates how anxiety and fear dominate many of the decisions made in every local church, your local church.  He identifies some of the key manifestations of anxiety and fear, and outlines healthier ways of acknowledging and managing anxiety so as to help your church better love God and other people.  Discussion questions at the end of each chapter serve to stimulate reflection and discussion specific to your local church context.

If you are a pastor, a church leader, or a person committed to loving God and loving other people in consistent and authentic ways, then this book is for you!  It has the potential to change your life and the life of your church, so acknowledge your own anxiety or fear, and hold on for the ride!  You won’t regret it!

Assessment Tools

How would you know if your congregation was in fact "anxious"?  What if it is anxious and you don't realize it?

We've developed an online assessement tool that  you and your leadership team can complete to determine the degree to which anxiety is negatively impacting your congregational life.

Each of the following webinars are designed for pastors and church leaders. You will maximize the potential benefit to your local congregation by viewing them together as a group and using the study guide to focus the application to your context. The webinars are structured in such a way as to provide your congregation an opportunity to engage at a level that fits your context.

This one hour FREE webinar will introduce you to some of the common indicators of an "anxious" congregation.  It will stimulate thought and provoke conversation among your leadership team specific to your own congregation. You may be surprised to discover that anxiety is alive and well in your own congregation!
